We’ve completed our first week of Preschool at Home and we’ve both learned a lot! For the first day I set up our alphabet wall and laid out all of the books for our day of animals. When Alexa woke up and came downstairs she was amazed. She exclaimed that it was “beautiful” and said “I love it”. It was super cute and a promising start to the day. We sang the ABCs went over the big & little letters and set up for breakfast.
Suffice to say my planned anticipatory set worked fantastically. She dug into her animal books while she ate. This did distract her from getting a good amount of food in her belly so for the rest of the week I left her table pretty bare until after breakfast. Lesson 1 for me..feed the kid before you rile them up LOL.
We’ve been dressing for school all week. I want that to be something Alexa gets used to in case we do a formal school program next year, and because I think it sets the stage for something more important than a lazy PJ day (which are neither few nor far between in this house as of late). We’ve actually been having some issues getting her dressed without meltdowns lately, so this is something to help break the habit of pants induced tantrums as well!
Alexa has seemed extremely pleased with herself for all the work she’s doing. When she handles the glue stick and then adheres a little cutout to a piece of paper she gets giddy! I’m so happy that she’s enjoying the process. Working with all of the different mediums (from construction paper to tissues, and from crayons to finger paints) will be good for her overall dexterity and will help her learn to create art on her own in the future.
All in all I’m happy with how things are evolving. I’m writing up a separate post on tweaks that will be made and more things I want to add. I’m really getting into this so please do expect to read a lot more on the topic in weeks to come
With that, enjoy the photos I took to document our first week of #PreSchoolAtHome!!!!
