Summer Camp Killed My Social Life

by Amber Stiles on July 11, 2012

HA….yeah Alexa’s Summer camp schedule has wiped us all out.  I haven’t seen a single friend this summer unless it’s been at a weekend party (and are weekends are always booked up too far in advance).

During the week I’m relegated to my house with an infant who will. not. nap. while we wait until time to pick up the bigger kid.  Once we’re home it’s a mad dash to eat lunch before someone’s blood sugar anger gets out of control. Then naps for all.  Then dinner.  Then bedtime.  Then wake up tomorrow and do it all again.

Suffice to say I’m looking forward for this 6 week stint of day camp to be over.  I’m SOOOOO happy we were able to give Alexa the opportunity to do this though.  She’s happy and playing and making friends.  She’s making crafts and learning to be her own person away from us.  It’s amazing to watch her grow up over just one summer but it’s exhausting.

At the end of July we’ll be done and then maybe I can see some of my own friends again during the week.  Until then…wait for me will you?  I promise I didn’t fall off the face of the Earth.  I’m just trying to figure out how in the world to juggle schedules for a whole family.

**I totally know it’s only going to get worse as the kids get older and are BOTH involved in their own little worlds filled with activities, friends, and school.  ACK!  How do parents do it?

I could not get my oldest, who is now 8 to nap for the life of me.

I understand you being happy to give Alexa the camp experience but at the same time, looking forward to it being over. The constant toggle of give and take – again exactly how I feel this summer.

Or, as you have suggested before, maybe we hijack New Jersey and REALLY DO cancel summer! What do you say?

My first was a terrible sleeper as a baby but is wonderful now. Naps still at 3 years old and sleeps well at night most times. I’m hoping the little one doesn’t wait till she’s 2 to do the same. She WAS a grand sleeper at first, tease ;-/

I’m so ready for Fall (though that comes with preschool *tears* and possible dance classes, LOL)

I honestly have no idea, but I have faith you’ll figure it out!

I guess we all do right? Good thing they grow up slowly enough that we get used to things as the change :-)

Take it from me, as they get older…make sure you put things on your own calendar when they are away at camp or you will feel lost and lonely. The rest of this week has been great but those first two days were rough for me.
Happy to hear Alexa is having so much fun! My girls are too! They are sad today is the last day.

Thanks for the tip. I’m looking forward to cleaning with them both out of the house. In a few years anyway LOL.
